Aneurysm of the ascending aorta with obstruction of the superior vena cava: report of case with resection using extracorporeal circulation.

چکیده
adjacent aortic walls.3 De Bakey and associates5’6 demonstrated the technical feasibility of resection of the ascending aorta for fusiform aneurysms with the aid of extracorporeal circulation. Reports of two successful attempts done by this group appeared in the literature in 1956 and 1957. The present report is that of a patient having a large fusiform aneurysm of the ascending aorta which had ruptured to form an additional false aneurysm in the anterior mediastinum. The presence of these two masses caused the rather uncommon complication of compression and obstruction of the superior vena cava.

The Largest Reported Dissecting Aneurysm of Ascending Aorta Following Aortic Valve Replacement Accompanied by Superior Vena Cava Syndrome
BACKGROUND Ascending aortic dissection (AAD) is a rare and serious complication of aortic valve replacement. Multiple risk factors such as connective tissue disease, aortic wall thinning, aortic diameter, calcification of wall, structural features of aortic wall and associated diseases have been considered as a predisposing factor for the occurrences of AAD. Preoperative recognition of these va...

INTRODUCTION Induction of general anesthesia in patients with superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome may cause airway obstruction and cardiovascular collapse. CASE PRESENTATION Herein, we introduced a patient with the diagnosis of dissecting aneurysm of the ascending aorta who was candidate for emergency surgery. He also had symptoms of SVC syndrome. To maintain airway patency during anesthetic ma...
متن کاملSuperior Vena Cava Syndrome due to Thrombosis: A Rare Paraneoplastic Presentation of Bronchogenic Carcinoma
Superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome is not an uncommon occurrence in patients with malignancy and it is often described as a medical emergency. In majority of the cases, SVC syndrome occurs due to mechanical obstruction of the SVC by extraluminal compression with primary intrathoracic malignancies. However, intraluminal obstruction due to thrombosis can also produce symptoms and signs of SVC synd...
متن کاملSuperior vena cava syndrome secondary to chronic dissecting aortic aneurysm after aortic valve replacement.
Ascending aortic aneurysm is a rare cause of superior vena cava syndrome. Herein, we describe a case of superior vena cava syndrome caused by a chronic dissecting aortic aneurysm after aortic valve replacement. A successful replacement of the aortic root and ascending aorta led to an improvement of edema of the face and bilateral upper limbs caused by superior vena cava syndrome.
متن کاملSurgical repair for giant ascending aortic aneurysm to superior vena cava fistula with positive syphilitic test
Syphilitic aortitis is usually associated with thoracic aortic saccular aneurysm, aortic regurgitation and coronary ostial stenosis. However, syphilitic aneurysms have rarely been reported today. Here, we report a patient with ascending aortic aneurysm with aorta-superior vena cava (SVC) fistula with positive syphilitic test. A 52-year-old man was admitted to our institution with a giant ascend...
